With December, the multi-announcing (wait, is this even a word?) of 2025 LEGO sets has started. At the time of writing, several Harry Potter, City, Dreamzzz, Creator, Ninjago and Friends sets have already been announced. In addition, we now have the official images of the CMF 27 series that will be released in January. Do you know what this means? A news post! However, I won’t be talking about the announced sets in general today. All the recognized (and unrecognized) sources have already posted about every set that has been announced already. My news post will mainly be featuring the animals in these sets, as they are the focal point of the blog. Of course, I will also mention a few other details that I like.
Shall we begin?
LEGO CMF 27 Series
We have three brand new animals coming with the LEGO CMF 27 series: A cockatoo, a puffy cat and a wolf. The cockatoo comes with the Pirate Quartermaster, the cat with the Cat Lover, and the wolf with the Wolfpack Beastmaster. The last one is a nice nod to the Castle theme. We have been seeing more and more of those nostalgic themes lately, directed to the children of 80s and 90s. It seems the Wolfpack is next, after the Lion Knights, the Black Falcons and the Forestmen.
We also have plush toys with a brand-new mould. The Plush Toy Collector minifigure has two of these, in shades of blue and green. They can also be found in some other sets of the new year.
The dinosaur and animal costumes continue, too. The next in line for the dinosaurs is the Pterodactyl Costume Fan, accompanied by a Hamster Costume Fan (not in the same package, mind you).
The rest of the minifigures in the series are a Bogeyman that tries to be scary but fails, a little Cupid, a Jetpack Racer, a Longboarder, a Steampunk Inventor and an Astronomer Kid. I’d like you to take another look at the Astronomer Kid’s hand. Last year, when the Friends theme was renewed, one of its characters, Autumn, had limb difference. This year, they made a prosthetic she can use. The Astronomer Kid is the first minifigure to use this kind of prosthetic hand.
2025 LEGO Friends Sets
LEGO Friends has really outdone itself in the last few years. I won’t be surprised at all if it becomes the face of LEGO sets in 10-15 years. Yes, the minidolls aren’t what we’re used to. To be honest, they’re a bit weaker, in my opinion. They can’t sit properly, their legs don’t move separately, or bend backwards, etc. etc. But when you look at the sets and not the figures, they have everything City sets should have had, but didn’t for years. I love the colorful buildings; I love the variety of buildings and their styles. In 2023, City sets were almost able to get to their level, I really hope it continues in 2025 as well.
We get a pretty good start with LEGO Friends sets in 2025. There are three new animal moulds, a weasel, a Guinea pig and a Corgi, and they all come in two different colors/prints. Aside from those, we have new colors and/or prints for the known cat and dog moulds.
The plush toys that come with the CMF series managed to find homes here, too.
There are two details that I really like. First, we now have Friends babies! While it looks similar to the minifigure babies, they use a different body and a head. You’re going to say “Well, it’s only natural, minifigure and minidoll heads are not compatible”, right? True, they’re not. However, minifigure baby heads are compatible with minidolls. I’m sure this will present interesting opportunities in terms of photography.
While I’m not 100% sure, one of the new babies seems to be Aliya’s sibling, while the other looks like either the child or the sibling of the green-haired guy (I don’t know his name yet, sorry).
The second detail is the minidoll included in the 42651 Horse and Pet Vet Clinic set. The LEGO Group has been concentrating more and more on inclusivity and diversity lately, more so in Friends sets, and we get another minidoll fitting this category: Eniko has a birthmark on her face.
Here are two bonus details. There were alternative expressions a few of this year’s Friends sets. At least one of the announced sets has this, too. They did this by including an extra head this year, I wonder how it will be next year. No matter how, the expressions seem really fun and spot on. The second one is the bicycle mould, which has been staying the same since its first arrival in 1985. It has been modified so minidolls can ride it, too. The angle of their arms and the lack of the movement of their hands made it impossible for them to hold the handle bars. Thanks to this little change, they can properly ride bicycles!
City sets announced for January 2025, while fun, lack any details that are caught on my radar, so I’ll skip them and move to Dreamzzz.
2025 LEGO Dreamzzz Sets
Honestly, there aren’t too many extraordinary stuff in Dreamzzz sets, either, but they have one of the plush toys in a different color. There’s also a detail that Classic Space fans may like: Mateo’s torso has a lovely design that combines his creation, Z-Blob, with the Futuron theme.
Ninjago Sets
These days, when someone says Ninjago I think about dragons, not Ninja. They’re pretty rich, both in the form of brick-built and small animals. The season of 2024 was called Dragons Rising, it seems 2025 will continue that. We get another baby dragon, using Riyu’s mould in a different color. There’s also another dragon appearing in both small and big sets. It looks like the ones released this year, but it’s not the same. This one, if I’m getting it correctly, has a new body mould with added (brick-built) wings.
Creator Sets
Although Creator sets usually have standard parts, I just have to mention the recently announced ones here. Six out of nine sets are based on animals. There’s also the polybag that was announced before, so we’ll get to make lots of animals in 2025. Toucan, penguin and fish (30688); spider, scorpion and snake (31159); flamingo, cockatoo and axolotl (31170); two different kinds of dragon and a Phoenix (31161); rabbit, llama and seal (31162); cat, dog and pigeon (31363); panda, Orca and penguin families (31365) are the animals that can be built with these sets.
While it’s not new, we also get a gargoyle with one of the Harry Potter sets. It was first released this year, with Wednesday sets. Again, it’s included in a big set, not really easy to get your hands on (I mean, getting the set just for that gargoyle kinda seems meaningless). Still, it’s a hint that it wasn’t just a one-time thing.
