LEGO 71479 Zoey’s Cat Motorcycle

LEGO 71479 Zoey's Cat Motorcycle

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to first of the series of reviews of sets I’ve bought during summer, but just getting around to build. Today’s guest is from LEGO Dreamzzz, 71479 Zoey’s Cat Motorcycle. There are a few more in queue, fingers crossed I’ll get around to reviewing them before the new year. There are also some from last summer, but let’s not get into those…

Ever since it was announced last year, LEGO Dreamzzz has piqued my interest. Even though I wasn’t able to follow up on the animated series, I still have a brief idea of what it’s about. There were 12 sets last year, big and small, and there have been 14 sets so far this year. The main feature of the summer sets is that all the main characters have doppelgangers. We have Dizzy, MadTeo, Doey, Dooper and Dogan as evil twins of Izzy, Mateo, Zoey, Cooper and Logan.

Not counting the polybag, LEGO 71479 Zoey’s Cat Motorcycle is the smallest of the summer sets. Let’s see what kind of set it is, what’s inside, and most importantly, is it worth getting?

We start with three bags and an instructions booklet. It still has plastic bags, unlike some sets that started using paper ones.

There are two minifigures in the set, Zoey and Dooper, Cooper’s doppelganger. Zoey’s outfit and face print is the same throughout all 2024 sets. Dooper appears in only this set, though. Both have double-sided heads, and very detailed torso and leg prints. Zoey has a very stylish bow; first appeared in Avatar sets in 2023, it can only be found in four sets. Same thing goes for the arrow piece, too. You can “throw” the arrow by pushing it a bit from the back side. Dooper’s weapon is a hammer.

You build the cat’s head, body and tail with the first bag, and the legs and paws with the second bag. I included an image with Zoey to give a sense of scale.

Catty Vehicles and New Parts

Like with all Dreamzzz sets, you get a choice with LEGO 71479 Zoey’s Cat Motorcycle, too. You can either build a motorcycle, or… yeah, I’m not sure what the second one is. A plane? A drone? A super-cat? :) Well, it’s some sort of flying thing.

There are two very important parts in the third bag: The raven and the transparent thing it carries. Sorry? No, of course I didn’t get the set just for the raven. I mean, it may have played a big role, but… anyways, that’s not important. According to the story, the raven belongs to the Never Witch and it steals memories. You can find these 1×2 transparent printed tiles in other 2024 Dreamzzz sets as well. Although I didn’t understand everything they refer to, I know for sure that two of them are existing LEGO sets: Sandman’s Tower (71477) and Castle Nocturnia (71486). I’m guessing the others represent places mentioned in the animated series.

Memory pieces from different sets

Both the raven and the glass dome piece are new moulds. The raven uses a similar color combination of the bad guys, black and trans-dark pink. While I’m not 100% sure, I think we will be seeing it in the future in different colors and prints, like the Patronus animals from the Harry Potter theme. It’s really a beautiful design.

The glass dome is unique to the Dreamzzz theme, too. The top of it is different than regular dome pieces, it looks like it’s crystallized. It’s possible to see the raven carrying it on all the summer 2024 sets. However, since the piece below is rounded, it doesn’t stand up when you place the raven on it – not unless you cheat, of course :)

Details in the instructions booklet

There are a few illustrations in the instructions booklet. They provide a little insight to the story for those who are unfamiliar. I remember seeing similar illustrations in Izzie’s Narwhal Hot Air Balloon (71472), too. Since one of my interests include drawing, I like seeing enrichments like this.

There was something else that grabbed my attention. Since I don’t get many sets, I haven’t come across something like this before, but of course that doesn’t mean it’s new. I was about to connect two pieces I was seeing for the first time when I saw an ear symbol. I thought “I wonder…” when I heard the click sound. It’s great to see them thinking about people like me. (For the curious: Neither of the pieces are new, in fact they have been in production since 2004.)

Heard the sound? You’re good to go!

Thoughts

Like I said in the beginning, I’ve been very interested in LEGO Dreamzzz, even though I haven’t been able to follow closely. I really like its minifigures and its fantastic world. There’s also the curiosity of observing the LEGO Group’s original IPs, which don’t always succeed. It seems to be going well so far, the theme completed its first year, at least. I would love to see more fantastic animals, though, preferably not brick-built. You never know, though, if the theme succeeds, we just might. For now, the raven will be enough :)

Is it worth buying, though? If you’re into the Dreamzzz theme, it’s not a bad set to add to the collection. As far as I understand, smaller sets like vehicles are meant to play with as you are watching the animated series, so they’re more meaningful to those who have been following from the beginning. The reason I got it was because of the cat-motorcycle-raven combination. While it’s okay as a motorcycle, it looks strange as a cat – the way I wanted to display it. Still, I wouldn’t call it a bad set, otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten it. It’s a different approach to cats, and looks great next to hundreds of cat toys in the house. However, it would’ve been better if it had a mouth like it did in the illustrations.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the LEGO Dreamzzz theme and 71479 Zoey’s Cat Motorcycle. Let me know in the comments.

See you in the next one!

The images of main characters, their doppelgangers and memory pieces are taken from Bricklink. The rest are mine.

Some girls play with Barbie dolls, while others create small worlds with LEGO minifigures and continue to do so when they grow up. You can probably guess which group I belong to :)
