LEGO 42633 Hot Dog Food Truck

LEGO 42633

This year’s been very rich in terms of mobile food and drink carts. There have been some very colorful, small vehicles in both City and Friends sets. I’ve even reviewed one of them, LEGO 60404 Burger Truck, in the beginning of the year. Today I’ll be looking at its equivelant in Friends, LEGO 42633 Hot Dog Food Truck. Although they were released at the same time, I acquired it recently.

Like the Burger Truck, the Hot Dog Food Truck is designed for younger children, so it’s an easy build. While it looks pretty cool on its own, I’m sure it would look much better integrated into a city.

We start with two bags, two instruction booklets and a vehicle base. The bags are plastic, unlike the Burger Truck which used paper.

Since the set is 4+, the instructions are made accordingly. Instead of writing how many pieces we need for each part, they are shown with pictures. I first saw this on the Burger Truck and thought it was a nice touch.

You build the food truck with the first bag, the stands and sitting areas with the second. It’s impossible to say “Huh, I wonder what they’re selling” when you see the truck from afar – it’s designed as a giant hot dog. While the interior is simple, it meets every need. A menu, a cash register, a fridge to keep the sausages and of course a pan for cooking them. The only downside is the roof – there isn’t one. It won’t be easy to work during rainy days.

There are two stands, one for condiments and the other for drinks. I like that they included a sitting area, but unfortunately the big-butted (!) minifigures can’t sit there, only the minidolls can.

A total of 9 sausage pieces (including the spares) come with the set, in three different colors: Red, bright light orange and black. Four buns are included as well. For me, the red one represents meat, the bright light orange represents vegetarian/vegan, and the black represents burned sausages.

Minidolls

There are two minidolls in the LEGO 42633 Hot Dog Food Truck, Leo and Kaya. Leo is from the main friends group when the theme was renewed last year, and we have seen him in various other sets in different outfits. His lovely cat Churro accompanies him.

Kaya, on the other hand, can be found in only one more set. Her most distinct feature is that she has heterochromia, one eye being brown and the other blue. Lately we have been seeing more and more characters with different physical appearances in sets (mostly in Friends, but City is trying to catch up). I don’t know about you, but I really like this. However, I’m still waiting for some chubby-overweight figures.

Thoughts

Like most 4+ sets, it’s a small and easy-to-build set. Still, the details are sufficient in my opinion. Honestly, I wasn’t sure whether to get this after getting the Burger Truck, but Kaya weighed in. Even though I’m still not 100% comfortable with minidolls, I like adding different-looking ones to my collection.

Once the set was finished, the burger truck drove in. Suddenly the place got crowded, people wanting hot dogs, burgers and drinks appeared out of nowhere. There was a drunk guy, too, but he’s harmless so we let him stay :)

Right, that’s it for today. We can’t always have super-long articles, right?

See you in the next one!

All images used in the article are mine.

Some girls play with Barbie dolls, while others create small worlds with LEGO minifigures and continue to do so when they grow up. You can probably guess which group I belong to :)
